I move away from the door so he can open it and leave the room. He steps out, and I turn to look at him. For a second, we’re on either side of the doorway. He looks at me curiously and asks, “Are you all right?”

“Yes,” I reply. “I’m just thinking.”

“Thinking about what?”

“Love potions.”

And maybe Lex is right about this. At least he’s choosing who he’s going to be in love with. It seems better than whatever George is offering me. Even if the love is a manufactured obsession, isn’t that better than assured heartbreak?

“Ivy….” Lex’s blue eyes look concerned. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Never better.”

I close the door in his face.
