Chapter 7

Ashley sighed heavily for the umpteenth time. She rolled over to one side of the bed and held the duvet cover close to her body as if that was all the possession she had left in the world.

She’d spent the greater part of the night tossing and turning in her bed, unable to sleep. Her head was beginning to hurt, a consequence of her being awake longer than her body was used to.

Her thoughts wandered around Corinne’s husband, the man who called himself Mr. Sanchez Miller. That was not the name she knew him with. A lot of things had changed about him, but there was still that evil sneer in his eyes which was unmistakable. She could recognize it anywhere.

Then, why had he pretended not to recognize her when they met? She wondered if it had something to do with the new life he had obviously created for himself or whether he did not remember her in truth. None of that made sense. Why was he pretending not to know her?
