Chapter 64. Silent Enemy

Aloha. Kayden and I sat at the breakfast table, the silence after our training session thick with tension. Beta Harris and Omega Merina entered the room. From the corner of my eye, I caught the sharp glint of disdain on Merina’s face. She hated me—jealous of my role as Luna. Everyone knew she admired Alpha Kayden, even jealous of Kate when she dated him, and more so of his ex-mate, Stella.
“Alpha, we have an update,” Beta Harris spoke, his voice laced with unease.
“Follow me to the office.” Alpha Kayden didn’t spare me a glance before leaving. I felt the familiar sting of distrust gnawing at me. After our wedding, shouldn’t he involve me in the pack’s affairs? Isn’t that what it means to share the burden as Alpha and Luna? His dismissal was a clear sign. I was Luna in name only, a mere placeholder.
I left the table, retreating to my room. There, I stared at the signed contract between Alpha Kayden and me:
