When Asher and I found out we had the same crush, we became even closer.

While others might feel jealous or competitive when interacting with their crush, we just teased each other and didn’t take it too seriously. In fact, it didn’t seem like Asher actually had a crush on Nathaniel, because he often ignored him.

I became somewhat close to Nathaniel after we were paired up for a Math quiz. And because we became close, there were more interactions between him and Asher as well.

A few days later, Asher told me he no longer had a crush on Nathaniel. He now liked a higher-year basketball player whose name we didn’t know. But Asher didn’t mind not knowing his name, so I didn’t make any effort to find out, even though I was curious.

Days, weeks, and months passed, and Nathaniel and I grew even closer… or Nat, as I and his close friends called him. I didn’t know what the state of our relationship was, but we were like best friends because we talked
