Chapter 16. Talking About Trauma

Maddie adjusted her hands under her head. “It’s fine, that’s life. Things happen.” She forced a smile, but she didn’t feel that way.

She did not feel like it was fine, she felt like it was unfair. She felt like she did not deserve half of the sh*t she went through.

Why did she have to go through all of that while there were awful people like Jacob walking around, just enjoying life?

“Is that all you want to talk about?” Nate asked her as he kept his eyes on the stars.

Maddie smiled sadly, scoffing faintly before saying, “F*ck it, I’m going to tell you everything.” She proceeded to sit up. 

Nate seemed intrigued. He chuckled. “Everything?” It was not like he did not already know everything about her life. He had already done his research but it would be nice to hear her say it.

He kind of felt a bit bad for hiring someone to tell him everything about her life. It was something he was supposed to learn from her when she was ready.
