Chapter 23. Not Like Other Girls

Maddie followed Jacob’s parents to the dining area, her mind still swirling with the events of the night. Although she felt at home at Jacob’s house, unlike what he had said would happen, she could not shake off a feeling of unease that settled in the pit of her stomach. 

She felt like something was going to go wrong, but again, something always went wrong in her life. 

As she took her seat at the table, surrounded by Jacob’s family, Maddie could not help but smile. This was the kind of life that she always wanted. She always wanted to be able to have a family of her own, to be able to look up to people to call parents. 

She was denied that from such a young age and was not even given closure as to what had happened to her parents. It was something that messed with her mind, confidence, and ability to expect something good.
