Chapter 55. Love Against Tradition

Maddie swallowed hard, feeling the weight of Nate’s words pressing down on her. She could see the hurt in his eyes, the worry etched on his face. Her instinct was to reach out, to assure him that everything would be okay, but the words stuck in her throat. 

“I do want to make this work,” She finally managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper. “But, Nate, you need to understand that I am an omega and you’re an alpha. It’s not natural for us to be mates, it’s almost forbidden. Society spits on it, and you know this.” 

Nate sighed, annoyance flashing in his eyes. “I told you to stop worrying about what other people think, didn’t I?” He was leaning against the wall, folding his arms on his chest. “F*ck society and what they think.” 

Maddie scoffed. “You say that now but when the pressure truly hits, you would regret ever telling me I’m your mate.”

“So what do you want me to do, reject you?” 

Maddie felt a stab to her heart yet she shrugge
