Chapter 59. The Show Must Go on

Despite the weight of her worries, Maddie tried to focus on her classes. The lectures and assignments were a welcome distraction ruin from everything that was going on in her life.

Yet, the thought of the beast still bullied its way into her mind. Jacob and Nate still lingered at the edges of her consciousness.

When the last bell rang, she packed up her things and headed to the designated meeting spot she had arranged with Nate via text when she had been in homeroom.

It was the campus park, and it was quiet during that time of the day. It would provide the perfect backdrop for a serious conversation.

She spotted Nate leaning against a tree, his eyes scanning the area. He straightened up when he saw her approaching, a concerned expression on his face.

“Maddie,” He greeted her, his voice soft, but filled with authority. “What’s going on? Your text seemed urgent.” There was a look in his eyes though that showed her that he was not exactly happy with her.&n
