Chapter 101
Chloe’s POV
I stepped out of the restroom corridor and slowed my pace before reentering the ballroom. I didn’t want to look rushed. I didn’t want to look shaken.
As I turned the corner toward the main hall, I heard voices coming from the private lounge area beside the stage. The door wasn’t fully closed.
Margaret’s voice.
Sharp. Controlled anger.
“…you should have told me,” she was saying.
Mr. Chuwa’s tone was lower, defensive. “It wasn’t necessary.”
My feet stopped moving.
“It wasn’t necessary?” Margaret repeated. “Your son has been interfering with everything.”
Son?
My pulse skipped.
“You think I don’t see the way he looks at her?” Margaret continued. “You think that doesn’t complicate things?”
There was a pause.
Then Chuwa said something that made my stomach drop.
“Jack has always been impulsive.”
The world tilted slightly.
Jack.
Impulsive.
Son. I stood there, frozen
