Chloe’s POV
Margaret never does anything halfway.
I picked up my clutch and walked out of the apartment without hesitation.
The venue was glowing from outside. Gold lights wrapped around the entrance pillars. Valets lined up neatly. Luxury cars parked one after another. Guests stepped out dressed in silk, diamonds, tailored suits.
It looked like a celebration.
It felt like a battlefield.
I stepped out of the taxi and smoothed down my dress before walking toward the entrance. The security guards glanced at me, then at the guest list.
I gave my name calmly.
There was a slight pause.
Then recognition.
I saw it in their eyes. The whispers had reached everywhere.
But my name was on the list.
Of course it was.
