Chloe’s POV

Her eyes flickered.

“You raised him,” I continued quietly. “Maybe you should ask him why he is obsessed with me.”

She slammed her palm on my desk. “Do not mention my son.”

“Then do not accuse me,” I replied.

Silence filled the room. Thick and sharp.

“You think you are clever,” Margaret said. “You think hiding behind rules and contracts will save you.”

“I am not hiding,” I said. “I am working.”

“You will ruin my family,” she snapped.

I straightened fully. “Your family was already broken before I walked into it.”

Her breathing grew shallow. “You think Drake will choose you?”

“I am not asking him to choose me,” I said. “I am asking you to stay out of my space.”

She laughed coldly. “You are delusional.”

“Maybe,” I replied. “But I am also not scared of you.”

That stopped her.

She studied my face like she was searching for a crack. Fear. Guilt. Shame. She found none.
