Chapter 32. Worst Nightmare
Ruby breathed out heavily. When she opened her eyes, they returned to normal. She sprang back to her feet, and Lacey followed her cue.
Lacey stared at her with a confused look. “What was that?” she asked sternly.
Ruby had scared the life out of her. Lacey’s face turned pale, and she sweated profusely, thinking she had lost Ruby.
After a fit of coughing to clear her throat, Ruby opened her mouth to speak. “That was my Granny possessing me. She wanted to pass the message to you herself.”
“Hold on,” Lacey motioned. “Your dead granny took hold of your…”
“She isn’t dead,” Ruby interrupted. “She’s alive,” she spoke with certainty.
“That’s impossible,” Lacey disputed. “Only spirits can possess the living.”
“You’re right, Lacey,” Ruby said. “But this isn’t so with the Grimmes Witches. We can possess anyone, whether we are dead or alive. This is what makes us unique among other witches’ bloodlines.”
