Chapter 50. Arrival

By the time we arrive, the sun is nearly setting.
For humans, it would be easy to use the cover of the fading light to our advantage, keeping to the shadows as we cross over into foreign territory and make our way to our destination. Easy enough if you know where you’re going and what to avoid along the way.
Unfortunately for shifters, it’s quite the opposite.
This late into the day, patrols are out in full force, doing a full sweep before the stars begin to speckle the sky. My father, in particular, has always been obsessed with having more ground covered right at twilight and into the late evening.
At a younger age, I’d never quite understood the fixation, believing it to be another one of his strange quirks and overly paranoid beliefs that we would be invaded.
