Panic shoots through the bond, waking me out of a dead sleep.
I’m such a damn fool for believing Ainsley would’ve turned around and gone back to NGU. Of course, she wouldn’t. She’s the most stubborn woman I know, with the only person holding a candle up to her being her best friend.
Between the two of them, I should’ve known she wouldn’t give up so easily. Not with how well thought out their plan had been in the first place. Ainsley would never leave without seeing an end to her journey. She’d demonstrated that much countless times when trying to soften me up to her.

Iris grunts when I flip on the lights and grab my things, quickly dressing and grabbing her phone off of the TV stand to check for any messages from my mate. The screen remains blank, with nothing incoming or outgoing.
