Chapter 56
Jerry froze where he sat. Slowly, he lifted his head, eyes darting past Cain for just a second; to Jay, to Vic. Cain was right, they had consented to this; he could tell from the expression on their faces.
“Go ahead then,” Jerry said, forcing a shaky breath, trying to sound braver than he felt. “If you can’t trust me, go ahead and kill an innocent brother.”
Cain’s jaw tightened as he forced a chuckle. “Innocent? Brother?” he repeated. “You’re neither of those two things if you ask me. It doesn’t seem so with the things you’ve done.”
He took a step closer. “How do you explain that you’re the only one I told about the key being in my house…” his voice sharpened, anger bleeding through now, “and somehow they knew exactly where to look?”
Jerry didn’t answer but Cain didn’t stop. “And before that?” he continued. “The first time they hit us… you were there. You said they were shooting at you, no?”
He tilted his head slightly. “And all the while they all shot
