Minutes turned into hours and the night deepened without him leaving her side. He told himself he would leave but he couldn’t bring himself to at the moment.
The hospital quieted yet he stayed right there, watching her, listening to every breath she took like it mattered more than anything else in the world. He only left her side when he heard a nurse coming to check on her for the night and when the nurse was gone, he came out of hiding and sat back next to her bed.
He had made up his mind. He wouldn’t walk out of her life like a coward this time. He’d tell her before he did it and explain it all to her. She deserved to know.
