Chapter 34

The doctor moved Jessica to a private VIP ward as directed by Xavier. She did not know how long she had been asleep when she opened her eyes.

A sharp pain pulsed in her lower abdomen as she looked around. She carefully pushed herself up and scanned the room. Xavier was sitting on the sofa in the far corner.

“Stay down,” he said, walking over to her.

“What about work?” she asked, blinking repeatedly like an innocent child.

“I’m the next chairman,” Xavier replied, pride dripping from his words.

He had already assumed the role in practice, but since his grandfather was still alive, everyone continued to address Dawson as the chairman. Jessica wondered how she had momentarily forgotten who she had married.

“I said lie down. The doctor said you need all the rest you can get
