Elsie POV
I slipped behind Amber who was fully dressed for work and was having her morning coffee.
Her expression was icy cold and distant. At that moment, she looked exactly like Alex.
But she wasn’t that way when I picked her off the side of the road after she left Cedric’s house. In fact, I was most surprised she thought to call me.
“I can feel you hovering and staring,” she deadpanned without looking back. “What do you want?” I mustered a smile and slid into the seat across from her.
“You didn’t tell me how it went at Cedric’s house,” I said, trying my best to make a conversation.
She made a face at me. It was something between a sneer and a grimace. “Stop acting like we are friends because we’re not.”
I pressed my lips together and nodded in understanding. She took a sip of her coffee and sighed, staring into the distance. After a minute of silence, she said, “He doesn’t love me,” she said.
