Kate POV

I turned the knob and pushed the door open, clearing my throat to announce my presence.

“Mia? Are you asleep?” I asked when she refused to turn and look at me.

“No”

“I want to ask how you been but I think I have my answer”

“Did Lukas send you? Or is it Michael?”

“I know you’re suffering but it’s not the end of the world”

“You said it yourself. I can’t have pups anymore. Lukas won’t have an heir and the elders would probably pressure him into divorcing me”

“That will not happen. There are other alternatives to try”

“Like what? Adoption?” she interrupted and scoffed. “As if Lukas would agree to that”

I exhaled. “How can I make you feel better?”

“Leave me alone”

“No can do. I know how to cheer you up” I circled the bed and crouched in front of her till our eyes met.

I had to admit, she looked terrible. Beneath her tired emerald orbs were eye bags. Her arms were thinner than usual and she looke
