Alex POV

My eyes popped open as soon as I heard the door close.

An unsuccessful attempt. For a moment there, I thought she was actually going to stab me.

The last two assassins Antonio sent after me were killed before they could make a move but now he sent a woman. It was obvious what his intentions were.

He wanted to play this game? Bring it on. However, I was smarter than him and would beat him at his own game.

I heard faint voices coming from downstairs. I could make out my mother’s voice.

Furious, I got out of bed.

My wolf grew restless but I was too preoccupied to notice.

What the hell was she doing here?

I descended the stairs and saw her with Antonio’s assassin. I thought she had left. She looked as if she had just seen a ghost.

I went to stand beside her.

“Mother, what are you doing here?”

“I came to check on my son. Is that so strange?”

I inhaled deeply, trying to suppress irritation.
