Chapter 174. Bonding
Only a select few remained awake, the remainder of the guard having fallen asleep. One guard in particular, one whom they’d nicknamed ‘The Guard’ because of his ability to always appear whenever necessary whenever danger was present and alert to the smallest movement.
As if aware of his presence, the guard stood watch vigilantly, watching over their camp through the slits between his fingers as he remained hunched over a small fire that he had made with some kindling from the forest’s surrounding trees.
His face was hidden within shadow due to the darkness that surrounded his body, but his eyes darted back and forth anxiously, darting around every corner of the camp as he scanned his surroundings, scrutinizing each detail to ensure that nothing would come within a hundred feet of their tent or their belongings without their knowledge or permission.
