“What exactly did you hear from them?” Saelyna pressed.
With his answer, Caivan fell silent, unable to continue speaking. Saelyna observed his face closely, waiting patiently for him to speak. Eventually, her gaze drifted from his face to his chest and she observed the faint rise and fall of his breathing.
A small sigh escaped from between Caivan’s clenched teeth as he turned his gaze away from her eyes. “I don’t know everything yet,” he uttered, his voice sounding weary. “All I knew is that they were trying to use me to get to the king, to somehow lure him out of hiding and force him into revealing the whereabouts of the king.” He inhaled sharply as he fought desperately to control his rising anger and frustration. “I should never have left him alone with those men!” he seethed.
