I heard her sigh.
“Fine. If that’s what you want,” Ashlene said and walked in my direction.
She placed the thick books on the table. It covered the folder. I lifted them one by one to get the document. It was what we’re supposed to talk about. She cannot hide that from plain sight.
“I see Dad already told you,” Ashlene said. Really? That’s how she starts this conversation? Not even with an apology?
“I can’t believe you signed it.”
The guilt was written all over her face. She bit her lower lip and avoided my gaze. Aside from the high bun, I also noticed some new things on her look today. She’s wearing large earrings, a mascara and a different shade of lipstick. A darker one.
