Lucas’s POV
The moment the words left my mouth, Lena’s entire expression shattered.Her knees buckled as if someone had kicked the ground out from beneath her, and I caught her before she dropped.
“L–Lena—”
She shook her head violently, hands trembling. “No. No, no… Madison? It can’t be.” Her voice cracked on every syllable.
I pulled her into my chest, tightening my arms around her as she sobbed. Her tears soaked through my shirt but I didn’t care. All I could think about was holding her together before she fell apart completely.
“Why did she have to go through that? Why?”
“She’s okay,” I whispered into her hair as I rubbed her back. “She’s safe. Gray got to her in time before something worse could happen. She’s at the hospital receiving the necessary treatment. Lena… she’s okay.”
