Michael’s POV
I woke up before dawn when the sky was still bruised with night and the building quiet enough that even my thoughts sounded loud.
Cassie’s words were still playing in my head and I realised that I had hurt her more than I had imagined. I needed to do everything in my power to get her to forgive me.
The first step I could think of was cooking for her. She used to love my cooking when we were still together. Hopefully she would still love them.
I knew exactly how she loved her food, not too spicy and the onion slices should be really thin so that they are almost invisible. I replaced every ingredient she was picky about, measured everything carefully, and tasted twice. By the time I was done, the kitchen smelled like memories I hadn’t earned the right to miss.
‘This is stupid,’ Aiden muttered in my head.
