Lena’s POV

The second the plane touched down, I felt the weight settle in my chest. I bolted out of my seat and alighted from the plane as fast as I could.

I rushed toward the car but Lucas grabbed me from behind to stop me. “Relax.” He took my hand and gave me a reassuring squeeze.

I took in a deep breath before walking to the car with my hands still in his. He opened the door to the back seat for me and he sat next to me with his thumb caressing the back of my hand.

He didn’t say much on the drive to Moonlit Hospital. He just kept glancing at me like he was afraid I would shatter. Maybe I would. I didn’t know anymore.

The familiar smell of disinfectant hit me as I walked into the hospital, making me realise how long I’ve been away from work. I walked up to the receptionist who immediately recognised me.

“Dr. Pretakis,” she greeted me with a smile on her face. “How are you enjoying your vacation?” she started but I ignored her question.
