Liana’s POV
The moment the gate slammed shut, the air in our compound front yard went completely still.
My chest was rising and falling too fast, my heart pounding like it was trying to escape my ribs. I pressed my palm against the steel, as if that could somehow keep Ian on the other side forever.
The angry glare I was receiving from my father didn’t even help my situation.
“Liana?” My mother’s voice called from behind me, confused. “What’s going on?”
Before I could answer, she stepped out of the door and looked back and forth between my father, who was sporting a furious expression, and my pale face.
“Who was at the gate?” she asked.
My father answered first, his voice sharp with anger. “Ian.”
