Lucas’s POV

The hospital smelled like a familiar antiseptic that Lena’s body has whenever she comes back from work which made me miss her even more terribly.

I sat rigidly in one of the steel chairs in the waiting room, my elbows resting on my knees, my fingers locked together so tightly my knuckles had gone white. Across from me, the red light above the emergency room door blinked steadily, mocking me with its calm rhythm.

Lena’s mother was inside with a bunch of doctors attending to her.

And Lena was still nowhere to be found.

Gray leaned against the wall with his arms folded and his jaw clenched while Xavier paced back and forth like he couldn’t stand being still. Austin sat a few seats away from me staring at his phone but clearly not seeing anything on the screen. Ian stood near the window, making low calls, his voice tight and controlled.

None of us spoke to each other as we were too lost in our thoughts.
