Lena’s POV
The courtroom settled into a tense silence as everyone returned to their seats after the short break. My palms were slick with sweat, my heart hammering so hard in my chest that I was sure the judge could hear it.
The judge adjusted his glasses and looked down at the files before him.
“After carefully reviewing all the evidence presented before this court,” he began, “and after listening to the testimonies of the witnesses, this court finds the defendant, Mrs. Lena Anderson, not guilty of the attempted murder of Lucas Anderson.”
For a second, I didn’t understand the words until they slowly sank in.
Not guilty. The judge declared me not guilty.
