Chapter 7
Tom looked back but couldn’t see anyone. He turned to the mirror again, and the person had indeed disappeared. He rushed out of his car and ran in the direction where he had seen the person, but there was nothing to be found anymore. His frustration grew.
Returning to his car, he angrily kicked its tires. Without wasting any more time, he drove straight to the office and walked into the station with a lunch pack in his hand. Immediately, he encountered the cleaner, who greeted him warmly with a smile. His mood was sour, so he managed only a fake smile before handing her the meal.
“It’s a homemade meal, personally made by me. Just have it,” he said and walked away, expecting her to thank him profusely if he had waited a little longer.
“Morning,” Dave greeted, and Tom nodded as he entered his office. He hung his jacket, sat down on the chair, and rested his back, but his mind was far from settling.
“Morning, Sheriff,” Hank greeted as he walked in with Dave. Tom
