Chapter 8
Emily looked around and sensed that something was off in the coffee shop’s atmosphere, unlike the usual days. She scanned the area but couldn’t spot anything different or strange. She reconsidered, thinking that her mood might be affecting her perception of the environment.
With her earphones in, she continued drawing while listening to music. Suddenly, a voice startled her.
“Quite a wonderful drawing!” a voice exclaimed. Emily had her earphones on but could hear the person clearly.
Startled, she looked up and saw a guy she had never seen in the vicinity before. He looked fresh and fit, with sweat on his face and a wet shirt that indicated he might have just finished his morning exercise.
“Thanks,” she replied, her voice soft. She couldn’t help but feel a shiver as his smile met her gaze.
“Can I sit?” he asked, and Emily smiled, pointing at the empty chair. He took a seat.
“I’m Marcus. I live nearby, and I’m also into painting,” Marcus introduced
