Chapter 25. Something Isn't Right

Orla meets me in the sunroom to escort me back to my room. I’d be so lost without this woman. I feel like I have a new friend here in her.

I follow her back to my room feeling a bit more confused than before, but on the whole, I’m happier about being here in the castle now.

The rumors about Cassian are probably true. He is cold and ruthless, ruling his kingdom and all the human kingdoms inside it with an iron fist.

But he’s not that way with me. He was kind and considerate at breakfast, and he told me I was his equal, even though I’ve never been more than a lower princess, and most people back in my kingdom, except Mother and Aisla, reminded me of that constantly.

So, maybe Maelie just isn’t my kingdom anymore.
