Chapter 12
“My parents were in the parlor watching a movie when I came in. I greeted them and continued to my room, still humming. My parents were shocked. The only time in my life I had made an effort to sing was on the day I had to cover up in a music competition for Benny, my neighbor. I broke his wrist for having smacked me playfully on the butt. So my parents were shocked that I could effortlessly hum a song. The shock was so much that they followed me all the way to my room, peeking in to be sure everything was okay. Funny enough, I didn’t even notice them at first. When I did, I didn’t pay much attention, which got them flabbergasted as I wasn’t someone who allowed people to peek at me. My cousin has a huge scar on his face, courtesy of his one-time peeking trial.
It got to a point my dad couldn’t take it anymore. He walked up to me, and though I noticed the movement, I didn’t move my eyes from the book I was trying to read.
