Chapter 38. Royal Garden

Elena walked through a passage in the castle with four fellow maids, engaged in lively chatter. Three of the maids, including Elena, laughed and spoke about random things that happened while they were carrying out their duties in the building, and the fourth maid, who was apparently their appointed leader, walked ahead. They each held a large wooden basket filled with freshly cleaned white sheets and towels.

“Elena, you haven't told us who that boy we met at the entrance to one of the kitchens is,” one of the maids, a red head with dark brown eyes, said.

“Yes, he was so handsome. Is he a squire to one of the princes? I’ve never seen him before,” the second maid spoke, shooting Elena a playful glance, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

“You girls should stop; he’s just a childhood friend of mine, and his name is Selwyn. He recently started training to become a knight, and he’s gone with Prince Damian on a trip, so you won’t be seeing him for a while,” Elena replied.<
