Chapter 14
Somehow, though Heather had no idea where the time went, it was Saturday.
This time around, Heather had no reason to want to skip her usual visit, so after hitting a gift store, she swung her little self into her cherry red car and drove off.
“Hi, mom,” she said as the smaller woman opened the door in delight.
“Heather! You look great! What’s up?”
They hugged, and Heather handed over the bottle of nonalcoholic grape wine.
“You know, you don’t have to bring gifts for us every time you come over. You’re not a guest; you’re family,” her mother said, looking at the price tag still attached to the bottle.
Heather ripped it off. “It’s fine,” she said, “I like doing it. And I’m doing okay. How are you? Where’s dad?”
They walked into the house, and Heather took off her coat. It was grey, she loved it, and Anna had given it to her.
