Chapter 57. Cold Shoulders

The tension in the car was palpable, and Zach’s silence felt like a weight pressing down on me. Gosh, I wanted to know what was going through that pretty mind of his. I wanted to know what was causing that tight frown on his face. 

Was he annoyed at me because I had woken up late? He couldn’t blame me, I was so tired and did not even know how I had fallen asleep. Plus, I had a crazy hangover that I was trying my best to ignore but it was not easy. 

I avoided his gaze, looking down at my hands as I fiddled nervously with my fingers. I knew I had messed up though, by making everyone wait, but they had to cut me some slack. It was not their lives that were in danger, it was mine. 

Cassie’s irritation from earlier still lingered in the air. She was not one to let things go easily, and it was not like she ever liked me, to begin with. Her cold glance every now and then as we were on our way, definitely did not go unnoticed.
