Chapter 65. Caught Staring

It was late and the night was cold. Zach was pleading with me so he could get more alcohol but I did not think that it was the best thing to do right now. He was broken and depressed, I understood that. 

But drinking would not fix that. It might numb him but that was only going to be for a few moments and then he would wake up to everything crashing on him again. So yeah, no. I did not want to watch him destroy himself. 

His words about wishing that he had never met me stung, and tears pricked my eyes. But I understood that. And even though it hurt, he was just being honest. “Do you really mean that?” I asked him, my mouth letting the words out without my permission.
