"Hello, Carla," I answered.

"Dean, I've decided. Can we meet and talk? I'll be home soon."

Home. God, no.

"I'm not at home, Carla. But I'll be back tomorrow."

I sighed. I knew this would trigger another argument.

"Where are you, Dean? Please, tell me you haven't gone to see her again. Please, Dean, tell me!" she begged.

I could lie to her, but I didn't want to. I knew that if I lied, Carla would eventually find out.

"Yes, Carla. I came to see her to talk about the baby, but I haven't been able to have a conversation with her. I'll come back tomorrow. Please don't be mad at me. I beg you. I don't want to fight with you, love."

Zed gave me a disapproving look. I knew he didn't like the way I talked to Carla, especially after I almost slept with Lena.
