It was a week after the funeral. The smell of grief was still in the air. Selene had been avoiding being alone with her dad since the funeral. She still blamed herself for the deaths, and seeing her father’s broken eyes increased her guilt. She wasn’t even able to apologize to him for being the cause of his mate’s death.
Over the week, she tried countless times, but she could never find the courage to do so. Honestly, she didn’t think she had the right to even apologize to him. Just because she was so eager to find out if her dreams were related to her mate, she made her father lose his.
“Selene,” she heard her father call. “Where are you?”
“I’m on the porch, Papa,” she answered from her position on the steps.
