Chapter 38
She felt like she was being led to a slaughterhouse, and her husband was the butcher. He seemed to be enjoying her apprehension because he went about doing other things: draping his jacket over the chair, pouring himself a glass of wine before coming back to face her.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“How was I to know you were unaware? You work at Eleganza, not me. If there’s anybody supposed to be passing company information, I believe that should be you.”
“That sounds like a good reason to you.”
“Yes. If it’s insufficient to you, that’s your problem. Why are you even mad at me?” She was getting pissed now. “How on Earth was I even supposed to relay that message to you when you’re barely even around? I almost have no business with you.”
“You could call or text or send a flipping email.”
