Chapter 160. Silent Bridges
Alexander quietly pushed open the bedroom door, the soft creak of the hinges barely breaking the silence that filled the room. The dim light from the hallway cast a pale glow, highlighting the contours of Isabella beneath the covers. She laid on her sides, her back towards him. Her breathing was slow and her posture suggested she was fast asleep.
Alexander stood by the door for a while, deliberating as he looked at his wife on the bed, his heart thick with worry. He could sense that she might not really be asleep; the tension in her body was slightly obvious, and the way she held herself seemed too deliberate. But he also understood why she would want to pretend to be asleep. Since they had lost their baby, he had lost words to communicate with her and she had kept to herself as well. He did not know what to say to her, but he needed to say something. The silence was eating him up.
He took a deep breath and walked into the room. He closed the door softly behind him. Alex
