Chapter 179. A Pang of Guilt

Bethany followed Maxwell around the house, her frustration mounting with each step.

“Maxwell, please,” she pressed, her voice laced with desperation. “You have to tell me what the hell is going on. Why are you being so cold towards me? I wasn’t the one who had you abducted.”

Her friend Kiekie had told her to press till Maxwell told her what the problem was. She had confided in her friend, and told her he worry about Maxwell’s coldness toward her.

“But I do know for sure that you two are not love birds. Why are you acting like a wife deprived of her husband’ affection? Or have you fallen in love with him?” Kiekie had ask her.

“Of course not,” Bethany had denied sharply.

“Oh don’t be shy to admit it,” her friend had pressed playfully. “Besides, he is a very fine young man with all the influence and wealth so I would not really blame you for falling in love with him.”

Bethany rolled her eyes and shook her head.

“Yes, Maxwell is a fine young man
