The dining hall felt suffocating to Hadley and she tries to regulate her breathing because she doesn't know what to tell Maurice.
If she tells him that she went to her father's place how was she going to explain getting drunk that was the only explanation she could come up with.
'Maybe I can just tell him about having some drinks with Father' Hadley thought and she sighed in relief at the plan she came up with.
"I was at my father's and we had done drinks, that's why I came home also drunk," Hadley says and Maurice's heart sank hearing her words.
"Ohhh," that was all that he said as he gulped the water in front of him in a hurry trying to suppress the surging emotions and hurt.
"Is that why you came home in a taxi? Your dad could not be kind enough to ask his driver to drive you home?" Maurice asked, and Hadley's eyes widened.
