Chapter 20. Protective

I continue walking with her wrapped around me, my hands exploring her body while she does the same.
However, once we're close to rounding the corner of the corridor, she stops.
"Wait," she whispers.
She slowly untangles herself from me and steps back onto the ground.
"What are you doing?"
"Shh! Be silent," she whispers again. She pokes her head around the corner and then shakes her head. "There are no guards."
"We had already established that that's your doing."
"Yes, but that doesn't explain why my guards aren't around. They should be here, patrolling every corner. Something is wrong."
Wary of the situation, we exchange a glance. I also peek around the corner and indeed, I don't see any guards either. She is right; something is wrong.
"This isn't your secret backup plan to kill me, right?" She asks, and I smile.
