Chapter 22. The Missing Children
Willow woke up with a sore body, but it was her first time sleeping so profoundly. Her eyes slowly opened, and the memories of last night flashed briefly, making Willow jolt with surprise. Her face flushed immediately because she had slept with Kyler.
For years, Willow felt sensations that left her giddy. She turned to the side and saw no one beside her. Willow was alone in the bed, covered by a blanket.
“Kyler?” Willow’s hoarse voice echoed around the room.
But there was no response at all.
Willow slid out of bed and saw her phone on the nightstand. Her brow furrowed slightly as she looked at the phone’s screen and saw several messages, some from Shawn and some from Kyler.
“We’ll keep you updated. Stay calm, Mrs. Anberlin,” read Shawn’s message.
Then she read Kyler’s message: “Don’t worry. I’m on my way to find Zoey. I’m with Shawn.”
Both messages implied the same goal—they were heading to the laboratory where Zoey was suspected to be held
