Chapter 23. The Mayor

Willow arrived in Cottonhill in the late afternoon and found Kyler at the police station. She felt odd about the bustling atmosphere in such a small town, not knowing what was happening. As she parked her car, Kyler rushed over a somber expression on his face.

“When are you leaving?” Willow asked as she stepped out of the car.

“We’re not going anywhere,” Kyler shook his head.

“Not going anywhere?” Willow’s eyebrows furrowed, puzzled.

“The kids have been found. And the lab’s location has been destroyed, but there’s not a single body left there,” Kyler explained.

Willow’s heartfelt, immensely relieved tears welled up unexpectedly. She hadn’t expected the police to find the lab so quickly. Even though it was strange that none of the kidnappers’ bodies were found there, why should that concern Willow? The important thing was that the children were safe.
