Chapter 12. Queen in Disguise

In the morning, I quickly went to the market; I had to buy things of utmost urgency. If I acted swiftly, perhaps it wouldn’t be too late to remedy things.
I didn’t disguise myself or hide my identity; quite the opposite. I mounted one of the horses from the stable and headed to the city, where people’s eyes watched me with curiosity. Some recognized me instantly; apparently, I was becoming a popular public figure.
In one shop, I got everything I needed, returning before noon. I had to resolve several pending issues and organized a meeting with the crown accountant and also with the head of the guards. I organized my whole day, and when I saw my husband at lunchtime, I had his infusion ready.
“What is that?” Jacob looked at the cup suspiciously that I offered him. “Is it some kind of witchcraft?”
“No, of course not.” I rolled my eyes, although I also had fun. “I already have your heart, my husband.”
He smiled, holding the cup and sniffing it.
