Another night of noise, I told myself as I woke up with all the latest news. I had not heard anything; my room was elsewhere, and I slept very soundly because of my pregnancy. I looked around for my night robe to put on before changing completely.
On the nightstand, I spotted something strange—some kind of locket with a portrait in it. A beautiful miniature; I wondered what was inside and took it with both hands to examine it.
It was a very beautiful piece of jewelry. My face was in it, but my hair had shades of orange that blended with my original color as if they were fire. In the portrait, next to it was Jacob, his eyes almost as blind as when I first met him.
