Chapter 8. Island
DOVE
The carriage stopped almost on the outskirts of the kingdom, on a dirt street that led to no dwelling. In my head, I already imagined my imminent death; I had fallen into a trap. I had always been one of the people who panicked easily, and I started to shake at the idea that my husband was deceiving me.
“We’re almost there.” His clear eyes landed on me, making me more afraid.
I silenced myself; we had slept together, and it seemed that we were starting to get along. My illusion of happiness seemed so unstable, as if my castle was made entirely of paper, and a wind was constantly tearing it down.
“I see…” I replied without much enthusiasm; his words echoed in my mind, and I did not want to think that his joke could be true.
“Do you fear me now?” he asked me, directly in the eyes, with his attractive face so close to mine. He kissed me without me realizing it was going to happen, holding me by the hips with some force.
