Demetrese watched as he saw Aset and Djet feeding each other grapes.“Just look at them. In love and made for each other! Why can’t Lilith and I be in love like that? She seemed to be so attentive, so full of want and need for me. Yudi sent her to me, and everything was going so well until it wasn’t.”

He shook his head and looked at Djet and Aset once more. She was cupping his cheek and laughing at something he was saying. Heat rushed from Demetrese’s center up to his ears. This was pure hell.

“It’s sheer torture to watch the two of them. Clearly, they have something special, so much so that Yudi has allowed them to live topside on the earth’s realm. Why can they do that? They are immortal witches. No other immortal magical creature is allowed to be topside with the humans! So why am I stuck in the shadows, disconnected from everything I’ve created in the other realms besides the Underworld?”
